Wireless back up for your graphics and other files

Thursday, August 20th, 2009

Okay, I work on a laptop. I like my laptop because it is wireless. I like sitting back and watching Hockey and working on my laptop, nuff said. My wife loves her laptop. Call us an old couple into technology, however after a hard day of work we like to sit in front of the TV and play on our laptops. Anyways, recently my wife lost a bunch of data. Yeah it really sucks, and she has to do a lot of catch up! Why is it gone, well, only because the IT department did not ask us before they re-imaged the drive, and because she did not have an easy way to back up her files. Easy meaning a way to write to another drive without having to get up off of the couch, walk downstairs, turn on the external hard drive, blah blah blah. We need to be able to back stuff up on the fly with a push of the button while we keep g and twitterin like birds! How can we do this without being a total IT nut? My solution is to buy a router/print server. Some of the new ones I have seen have USB ports on the back so that ou can hook up to a printer Make sure to get one with a NAT feature. Basically you want the ability to write to the drive. In many cases this has been established through FTP protocol across the network. I know, it is not easy as having a physical drive show up in your windows explorer, however for under $200 you can have a nice external hard drive and a nice router that writes to the hard drive using wireless technology. I am looking in the ASUS RT-N13U. This router gives the ability to do this sort of thing, as well as the ability to print, which is very nice. Anyways I will be ordering and testing this soon. it is a new product and I think that it will do the job, especially for under $60 at Newegg.com. PS,make sure to get at least a 500 GIG hard-drive. Space is soo cheap these days!
